Getting the right fit on a dachshund comes down to three measurements: back length, chest, and neck. Take those, match them to the chart below, and you'll skip the most common reason dog clothes fail on a dachshund — they were never measured for one.
The three measurements that matter
- Back length — from the base of the neck (where a collar sits) to the base of the tail. The most important number for a long-bodied dog.
- Chest — around the deepest, widest part of the ribcage, just behind the front legs.
- Neck — around the base of the neck where a collar rests.
Measure with a soft tape while your dog is standing. Long-haired? Measure snug against the body, then allow a little room.
