When the temperature drops, one thick coat isn't the answer — layering is. Here's how to keep a cold-sensitive dachshund warm and mobile.
Start with a base layer
A soft next-to-skin layer traps body heat and adds no bulk. This is your foundation.
Add warmth on top
Over the base layer, add a hoodie for cool days or a coat for real cold. Two thinner layers beat one heavy one — they trap more warm air and let you adjust.
Cover the core, free the legs
Focus warmth on the long back and chest; keep legs free to move. A piece that restricts movement is worse than none for a dachshund.
Keep them dry
Wet is colder than cold. Towel off after damp walks and let layers dry flat.
