How to Wash and Care for Handmade Dog Clothes

Handmade clothes in premium fabric last for years — if you wash them kindly. Here's how to keep your dachshund's Chang pieces soft, warm and in shape.

The simple rule

Hand wash cold, lay flat to dry. It takes five minutes and protects the fabric, the stitching and the fit.

Step by step

  • Fill a basin with cold or lukewarm water and a little gentle detergent.
  • Turn the piece inside out, submerge, and press gently — don't wring or scrub.
  • Rinse in clean cold water until no suds remain.
  • Press out water in a towel; never twist.
  • Lay flat, reshape, and dry away from direct heat and sun.

What to avoid

Hot water, tumble dryers, bleach and aggressive wringing all shorten a garment's life and can distort the fit. Wool pieces especially need cool water and flat drying.

Cared for this way, a Chang piece is made to be worn season after season — and handed down to the next long dog.
